Our foundation was the recipient of funds generated by a walk-a-thon held in Baldur on May 23. Organized by Miss Shayla Gillis of Baldur, over 50 participants led by the local RCMP took part. Shayla, along with her parents and siblings & other family members hosted the day with a silent auction, barbeque, gift bags and lots of enthusiasm. The day ended with $2500.00 donated to Westman Dreams for Kids. Shayla is an 18 year old 2nd year student taking Agri Business with hopes of going into research and development of crops and their varieties. She spent the summer working as a technician with Agquest Research in preparation for her life goals in the field. Shayla, at her young age, already has an impressive resume as an entrepreneur and caring volunteer. She has been awarded the Governor General’s Award for spearheading another walk last year called “Hope for Kenya” inspired by her trip to Africa with Free the Children. The success of that event helped build a school in Kenya. Our foundation thanks Shayla, her family and all the participants of the Hope for Dreams walk for their dedication to helping us make Dreams come true. And we are especially thank full to have met this amazing young woman.
